The first AMISOM soldier has been tested positive for coronavirus

Foreign troops in Somalia have been hit with coronavirus for the first time.  AMISOM sources close to the situation reveal that a Ugandan soldier in Mogadishu has contracted Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Reports add that the soldier remained in Somalia for the last 6 months and has never been outside Somalia before being diagnosed with coronavirus.

This is a troubling development, not just for the soldier who has contracted the disease but for AMISOM troops operating in Somalia in general. There are currently more than 20,000 foreign troops in the war torn country in the horn of Africa.

Somali health authorities have so far confirmed more than 500 coronavirus cases and almost 30 deaths.
