Muqdisho, July 15, 2018 (Hornnews24) – According to emerging reports, some of the Alshabaab men who attacked yesterday the Somali presidential palace in the Somali capital Mogadishu have absconded away safely.
A spokesman for the Alqaida-linked group, Alshabaab, has confirmed that several of the group’s men who participated in the assault on the Somali government’s heavily-fortified compound in Mogadishu escaped unharmed returning to their base. He did not give details on how the men managed to escape.
The spokesman for Somalia’s al-Shabab armed group had issued a statement late on Saturday saying that they carried out the attack on the presidential palace.
Andulus, al-Shabaab radio station, said that the group killed more than 12 persons including 7 guards of the presidential palace. “Some of the attackers came back home safely to their base,” al-Shabab’s military spokesman Abdulaziz Abu Musab said.
Explosions rolled and rumbled across the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Saturday followed by gunfire when Alshabaab fighters launched a surprise assault on the Somalia’s presidential place.
One of Mogadishu’s businessman says “Mogadishu residents can no longer rely on the military might of the Somali government as it cannot defend itself from the Al Shabaab attacks”. “They are collecting taxes and charging us a lot of money”, he added.
