Somalia: Two government soldiers slain at the suburb of Mogadishu

Mogadishu, January 9, 2019 (hornnews24) – At least two government soldiers have been killed at a checkpoint manned by Somali government soldiers at the suburb of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday.

Al-Qaida-linked group, Alshabaab, has claimed immediately responsibility for the attack. The group has launched a string of attacks on Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and other areas controlled by the federal government in a bid to oust the Western-backed weak government to impose Islamic sharia law on the country.

Alshabaab has established an effective state within a state. They collect taxes in all major towns and operate justice system.  Many Somalis even those in the Somali capital Mogadishu seek justice in the mobile courts operated by powerful Al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Al-Shabaab. 

Al-Shabaab has imposed Islamic Sharia law on all the areas it controls. The group provides Somalia’s only effective justice system by operating mobile courts that deal with cases swiftly.
