Somalia: sounds of explosions reverberate across Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Sept 22 (Hornnews24) – At least four people including government official and two soldiers have been killed and several others were wounded by two car bombs rocked on Saturday the Somali capital Mogadishu.

This broad daylight offensive was a surprise to the residents of the city who were awakened by the sounds of the multiple explosions and the fire fight which erupted in the heart of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab has claimed responsibility for both the explosions which rumbled across the Somali capital Mogadishu.

This massive attack that rocked a bustling Mogadishu Street Saturday was another demonstration of resilience by al-Shabab, an Islamist group that has been battling U.S.-backed Somali government forces.

Al-Shabab still controls many areas in the south, including the main roads leading to cities and towns.

Al-Shabab is a hierarchical organization led by its emir (“prince” or “commander”) Ahmed Umar Abu Ubaidah. Answering to Abu Ubaidah are a set of regional commanders who manage the group’s presence in southern Somalia and Mogadishu, Bay and Bokool, Puntland and Somaliland, and Juba Valley.
