Somalia: National Security conference opens in Baido town, south Somalia

Baido, June 4, 2018 ( – National Security conference has opened today in Bai regional capital Baido which brought together the leaders of the Somali federal government and regional autonomous states.

Attending the meeting are the Somali president Farmajo, who presides over the meeting, the Somali Prime minister Kheyre and the presidents of the Somali regional states apart from Somaliland and Khatumo state.

The conference focuses on, among other things, ways of enhancing security through the creation of a joint force composed of thousands of soldiers which would come from all the regional governments in Somalia, boosting economy and power sharing.

The conference’s priority is to fast track plans for a capable, accountable and integrated security forces, to enable the country provide a safe environment for the people of Somalia. Somali government together the regional states must be committed to take the lead in the security sector which is currently shouldered by foreign peacekeepers.
