Kismaio, May 17, 2019 (hornnews24) – Heavily armed Alshabab fighters have on Friday captured strategic village at the border between Kenya and Somalia after chucking Jubbaland provincial State soldiers out of their base there.
The Al-Qaida-linked group has launched a sudden onslaught at dawn on Dif village near Dhobley town defeating the regional forces in that village without much resistance.
According to the residents, Alshabab fighters have waged the offensive from various directions and managed to thoroughly capture the village after Jubbaland regional forces deserted their base.
Alshabab has claims that it has confiscated assorted weapons and ammunitions left behind by the defeated provincial forces.
The Islamic fighters have ramped up their attacks and ambushes against the Somali government soldiers and foreign forces.
Somalia has been in a state of chaos and lawlessness since the early 1990s, when Dictator Mohammad Siad Barreh was toppled by clan-based warlords.
The Somali government has left no stone unturned to try to defeat the Islamists with the support of foreign troops and US air strikes but still in vain.
