Somalia: huge explosion hits Mogadishu, the Somali capital

Mogadishu, September 2, 2018 (Hornnews24.com) – Several people have been killed and others were wounded when a huge car bomb explosion hit on Sunday Hawlwadaag district administration Headquarters in the Somali capital.

The explosion used with a car laden with explosives has destroyed several houses and a quranic school and it is feared that children are among the victims.

Details are still sketchy and no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack although Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab group has carried out similar attacks.

The Islamic fighters have ramped up their attacks and ambushes against the Somali government soldiers and foreign forces during the holly month of Ramadan.

Somalia has been in a state of chaos and lawlessness since the early 1990s, when dictator Mohammed Siad Barre was toppled by clan-based warlords.

The Somali government left no stone unturned struggling to defeat the Islamists with the support of peace-keepers, Western aid and frequent air strikes on Islamist targets by the United States but in still in vain.
