Somalia: Galmudug Regional State splits into two, each announces unilateral parliament

Galkaio, January 20, 2020 (Hornnew24) – Galmudug provincial state in Somalia’s central regions has now two apposing parliaments after the administration split into two groups recently.

An electoral committee named by the President of Galmudug state, Xaf, has announced on Monday a list of 68 parliament members. These members would then choose in the coming days a parliament speaker and his two deputies.

Somalia’s federal government has last week issued a list of 89 parliament members for the split group which is backed by Mogadishu. The situation is on the brink of war.

President Haf has repeatedly accused the Somali Government of interfering into the region’s internal affairs but the Somali government has downplayed such accusations.
