Somalia: Ethiopian troops seize control of Kismaio Airport of Jubbaland State

Kismaio, July 29 (Hornnews24) – Hundreds of Ethiopian soldiers have taken control of the international airport in the administrative capital of Somalia’s Jubba Land Regional State on Monday, local sources say.

According to the local people, Kenyan troops that stationed in the area have vacated the city shortly before the arrival of the Ethiopian forces armed with dozens of tanks and armoured vehicles.

It is believed that Ethiopia wants to help Mogadishu in getting rid of the President of Jubba Land State,  Ahmed Madobeh to enable Mogadishu to nominate its own hireling in the coming presidential elections as it interfered before in the presidential elections in Baidoa, the administrative capital of South West Sate in Somalia, where Mogadishu sent its puppet to lead that state.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed who maintains good relations with the Somali President Farmajo, has been facilitating for his friend to put down any revolt against his leadership and tighten his grip over the war torn nation.

Regional member states including Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region, Jubba Land and Galmudug provincial state had previously cut all ties with the central government accusing it of refusing to share power and foreign aid with the regions in line with the country’s federal structure and failing to improve security.
