Somalia: Car bomb kills 30 in Mogadishu, among them a former foreign Minister

Mogadishu, May 22, 2019 (Hornnews24) – A vehicle laden with explosives went off at near the entrance of the heavily fortified Somalia’s presidential palace in Mogadishu has on Wednesday killing at least 30 and wounding dozens of others.

The car bomb which targeted a checkpoint has killed senior government officials and soldiers. Among the dead are the former foreign minister of the Federal government Husein Elabeh Fahiyeh, General Fay Ali Ragheh and other personalities.

The massive explosion in the capital sent towering plume of smoke into the sky as ambulances rushed to the scene. The scene was convulsed by the tremendous explosion while the air was instantly filled with huge stones, broken glasses and flying fragments of vehicles, rent asunder and whirled aloft by the explosion.

A police cordon has been put in place at the scene while Crowds watched quietly from behind police cordons. Al-Kaida-linked Alshabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
