Somalia’s Biggest prison facilities inaugurated in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, February 23, 2019 (Hornnews24) – Somali government has on Saturday cut the ribbon a newly completed prison complex aimed at housing thousands of prisoners and detainees.

Prisoners are currently held in overcrowded cells while they are beaten and tortured during interrogations to coerce them to “confess” to committing crimes.

War-plagued Somalia, with its crumbling government infrastructure, is the world’s most corrupt country, according to a global survey by the international watchdog Transparency International.

Politicians in Somalia have come up with a new way to profit from that country’s misery: They detain hundreds of innocent young men for the purpose of extorting bribes and illegal money from their relatives.

Somalia has lurched from crisis to crisis since 1991, when the central government disintegrated, clan-based warlords tore the country apart and a famine broke out.
