Somali legislators remain indoors for fears as insecurity prevails

September 15, 2019 (Hornnews24) – members of the two houses of the Somali parliament have stated on Sunday that they were persuaded to remain indoors because of growing fear of insecurity.

Each lawmaker had previously more armed bodyguards, but according to the latest reports the bodyguards will be limited to no more than one or two, while some of these members of parliament will no longer be entitled to have army bodyguards for certain reasons.

Legislators including Husein Arab Isseh, Prof. Mohamed Omar Talha and Nura Farah Jama have accused the Somali government of removing of their armed bodyguards and armed escorts while the security situation the Somali capital, Mogadishu, deteriorates.

The lawmakers have underscored that they would remain indoors as long as the insecurity prevails as they could not endanger their lives for going out without armed escorts.
