Security men kill four and wound dozens as angry protest rock Mogadishu

Mogadishu, April 13, 2019 (Hornnews24) – Somali police have shot dead at least four protesters and wounded dozens of others on Saturday to quell angry protesters in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Mogadishu in protest of the killing of a rickshaw driver and his passenger who were killed by a government soldier in the city earlier today.

The peaceful protesters chanted anti-government slogans condemning the killing of the civilians by the government soldiers and the deteriorating security situation in the Somali capital.

One of the demonstrators, Ahmed Jibril, has described the Somali government as a non-starter in a fantasy world.  Police brutality and lack of accountability have corroded respect for the zombie central government.

In another development at least two journalists covering protests have been arrested by the Somali police in Mogadishu. Police have also confiscated the journalists’ equipments.

Mogadishu attempts to muzzle press freedom and gag independent reporters to prevent them from carrying out their duties.

Somali government has recently banned journalists and paramedics from attending explosion scenes to hide from public the violence and deadly blasts that often claim dozens of officers and soldiers in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
