Minister: “Somali government does not recognize any of the Somali universities”

Muqdisho, July 25, 2018 – The Somali federal government has announced that it did not recognize any of the universities across the country.

Somalia’s education minister Abdirahman Dahir Osman underlined that his government could not recognize the country’s universities. Many believe that has been a decline in academic standards overall in Somali higher education over the past two decades.

Minister Osman emphasized that his government would control the quality of all the universities operating in the country before recognizing them.

Business people established hundreds of so-called private universities without curriculum or qualified teachers and exploit thousands of students. The educational level of some of these universities is even lower than an intermediate school.

The there are very few genuine universities in Somalia and the government now decides to check the qualities of these educational institutes.
