Doomed Ukraine airliner did not call for help before crash in Iran

The Ukrainian airliner that crashed soon after takeoff in Iran on Wednesday morning did not signal for help and was heading back to the airport when it went down in a field, killing 176 people on board.

Iran’s civil aviation authority made the conclusion in a preliminary crash report that was released Thursday.

The Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport.

The plane was carrying 167 passengers and nine crew members from different nations when it crashed.

The crash happened hours after Iran launched missile strikes at air bases in Iraq that house US troops in retaliation for the killing of Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

No US soldiers were killed in the strikes at the al-Assad and Irbil bases.
