Mogadishu, April 24, 2020 (Hornnews24) – The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Somalia including associated deaths attributed to coronavirus disease.
Dozens of people have died in the Somali capital Mogadishu in recent days from what people believe is a coronavirus but only a total of 328 cases have now been recorded in Somalia, while 8 have made full recoveries, 16 succumbed to the virus and 2 are in a critical situation.
Speaking to Somali national news agency – SONNA, Somalia’s medic chief, confirmed 42 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday while the death toll in Somalia hits 16.
Mogadishu will usher in Islamic holy month (Ramadan) that will prove unfamiliar due to restrictions placed on travel and gatherings of people in order to stem the spread of Covid-19.
As the safety of everybody is the priority, the Somali government has imposed a night curfew on Mogadishu, the Somali capital banning large gatherings of friends for iftars and congregations prayers in Mosques. Most residents have adhered to stay-home orders.
