At least 15 people have died and dozens have been wounded after a passenger bus crashed into a truck on the side of the roadin southeast Kenya. 10 perished on the spot and 4 others passed away for their injuries.
The accident in Tana River County occurred on Sunday night, a senior police officer in the area told DPA news agency.
Dozens of people who sustained serious injuries are admitted at the Garissa Referral Hospital. According to survivors, the bus was overloaded and speeding.
Reports indicate the bus, with 50 passengers on board, was trying to overtake another vehicle when it rammed the trailer that had stalled on the road to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming car.
Official statistics show that around 3,000 people die annually in road accidents in Kenya, but the World Health Organization estimates the figure could be as high as 13,000.
