Alshabab briefly seizes village inside Kenya and destroys telecommunication masts

Garisa (hornnews24) – Heavily armed men of Alshabaab Islamic fighters have last night attacked Kenyan Police station in Wel Marer area, Garisa Country briefly occupying the village.

The al-Qaida-linked group managed to rout the Kenyan police there in disarray without much resistance after a surprise onslaught.  Alshabaab has thoroughly destroyed Safaricom communication masts in the area, cutting off communication before capturing the police station there.

According to the residents Alsahbaab fighters had used Rocket Propelled Grenades for the destruction of the Safaricom masts, Garisa Country.  Kenyan officials have also confirmed that SAFARICOM masts were blown up.

In 2015, At least 147 people, mostly students, have been killed in an assault by al-Shabab militants on a university in north-eastern Kenya.  Heavily armed attackers stormed Garissa University fired indiscriminately on students.
