Wedbesday, June 27. 2018 (Hornnews24) – Alshabaab Islamic fighters have strongly denied rumours indicating that their leader passed away.
Local newspapers and radios quoted Somali government’s officials who said that leader of the Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab Ahmed Dirieh Abu Ubaidah had died.
Ahmed Dirieh Abu Ubaidah is a successor to former Alshabaab leader Ahmed Godaneh who was killed in 2014 by US air strikes.
Speaking to a local newspaper “Somalimemo” a senior Alshabaab official described the rumours on the death of the organization’s leader as unfounded and ill-intentional aimed at misleading the public to turn their eyes away from what he called the political blunders of the current Somali government.
“Sheikh Abu Ubaidah is alive and healthy and his death will be determined by Allah’s destiny. He will make infidels taste hell on earth if it be the will of God”, said the Alshabaab official.
Independent reports have neither confirmed the death of the Alshabaab leader nor indicated that he is alive.
