Alshabaab attackers kill Kenyan Polcie officer in Kenya’s Lamu county

Lamu, July 28, 2018 (Hornnews24) – Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab ambushed a Kenyan police convoy yesterday night  in Kenya’s Lamu county, killing at least one police officer and destroying police vehicles.

Al-shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.  The group said that its fighters ambushed the Kenyan police convoy and destroyed two police vehicles.

According to Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Musab, the group’s military spokesman, Al-Shabaab has seized several rifles after killing the Kenyan police officer.

It is not the first attack on its kind launched by Alshabaab fighters on Lamu country.   On 15th January, 2018, heavily armed Al-shabaab men occupied Ishakani Police Station in Lamu and hoisted an Islamist flag there for several hours before withdrawing.

There are growing fears in Kenya that Alshabaab fighters could be preparing a large-scale attack and could be using raids in Lamu as a diversionary tactic.
