Jalalaksi, June 8 (Hornnews24) – Somalia’s AlShabaab Islamist group attacked a military base of Djibouti soldiers serving with an African Union force on Saturday killing at least 10 Djibouti soldiers.
More than 30 Djibouti soldiers were also injured in the attack which occurred at Jalalaksi town of the Hiran region in Somalia. The al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack saying that at least 13 Djibouti soldiers and officers had been slain.
Three explosions have rocked that Djibouti military base, a car laden with explosives rammed the entrance to the base in the central town of Jalalaksi then Alshabaab fighters overran the site, killing soldiers.
Djibouti, which hosts military bases for France and the United States, contributes troops to the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) trying to stabilise neighbouring Somalia to the south.
Al Shabaab attack regularly AMISOM, which is made up of about 22,000 soldiers as the group fights for driving out AMISOM to topple Somalia’s Western-backed government and impose Islamic Sharia law on Somalia and on its affiliated member states.
