Al-Shabaab fighters cross border into Kenya and preach for hours in Komor Haile mosque

Mandera, May 25, 2018 – Scores of Alshabaab fighters travelling with vehicles mounted with heavy machineguns have crossed yesterday afternoon the border into the Kenyan and reportedly delivered speeches at mosques including inside Kenya preaching the residents there.

A Kenyan Mandera police report revealed that unknown number of heavily armed militants arrived at Komor Haile mosque on Thursday afternoon.  Also a local resident who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity said that the Al-Kaida-linked Alshabaab stayed there more than five hours.

 “They arrived when a sheikh was delivering a sermon, snatched the microphone and ordered him to sit and listen. We were shocked,” said the local. “It is Ramadhan and we go to the mosques at night for prayers and teachings,” said the local.

While a report of the Kenyan police said: “militants forced worshippers to listen for hours to their tirade against the Kenya government, local civil servants and security officials”.

Mandera County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka declined to comment on the raid.  Komor Haile is located between Koromey and Arabia in Mandera East Sub County of Kenya.
