At least 7 Kenyan police officers have been killed when gunmen attacked two police posts in Wajir County in northeast Kenya on Saturday.
A Somalia-based Alqaida-linked group, known as Alshabaab, has claimed responsibility for the onslaught, saying it had killed 7 Kenyan police officers and confiscated ammunition as well as assorted weapons.
According to the reports, Alshabaab has briefly occupied the two posts of the Kenyan policemen after routing the Kenyan security men there in disarray.
Alshabaab has carried out a number of attacks in neighbouring Kenya. Kenya has often been targeted by al-Shabab, which killed 67 people at Nairobi’s Westgate shopping centre in 2013 and nearly 150 students at Garissa University in 2015. Al-Shabab says its attacks are revenge for Kenyan troops stationed inside Somalia.
