7 dead including a mother and her children after their rowboat capsizes in South Somalia

Afgooyeh, June 12, 2018 (Hornnews24.net) – At least 7 people are known to have been died after their rowboat tipped over on Shabelleh River in South Somalia on Tuesday.

Among the dead were a mother and her children who fell into the water and drowned.  It was not immediately clear what caused the boat to capsize.  The boat was taking people from Afgoyeh town to Awdhegleh of the Lower Shabelleh region.

The boat was overloaded as it was carrying almost 20 persons and a lot of goods.  Boats on the river are often overcrowded and accidents are common.

No rescue efforts were made as the scene of the accident was a remote area without roads or access.
