According to reports emerging from Southern Somalia, at least 24 Ugandan soldiers have been killed and dozens have been wounded when their convoy was ambushed by Alshabab Islamic fighters on Monday.
The attack which occurred between Bufow and Jannalleh towns in the lower Shabelleh Region in Southern Somalia was carried out by a man driving a car packed with explosives that rammed into a Ugandan and Somali military convoy killing almost 40 soldiers.
The Al-Qaida-linked group, Alshabaab, has claimed responsibility for the onslaught and saying that 24 Ugandan troops and 13 Somali soldiers were killed while more than 40 others were wounded.
The group also said that they destroyed 6 armored military battle wagons, including two tanks during the attack.
Local sources have also confirmed the deaths of 24 Ugandan soldiers and 13 Somali soldiers saying that the ground littered with dead bodies dressed in military uniforms.
