Alshabaab claims responsibility for car bomb that killed 15 in Somalia

Afgoyeh, August 10, 2018 ( – A suicide bomber rammed on Sunday a car laden with explosives into a Somali military base in Afgoyeh town of the lower Shabelleh Region, south Somalia killing at least 15 military officers and soldiers.

Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack which also wounded scores of soldiers.  Ambulances were seen transporting wounded soldiers.

Al-Shabaab spokesman told reporters that his organization had carried out the attack without further explanations and pledged that the Islamic fighters would never cease their fight against the Somali government and the foreign troops.

The Islamic fighters have recently ramped up their attacks and ambushes against the Somali government soldiers and foreign forces.

Somalia has been in a state of chaos and lawlessness since the early 1990s, when late Mohammed Siad Barre was toppled by clan-based warlords.

The Somali government left no stone unturned struggling to defeat the Islamists with the support of peace-keepers, Western aid and frequent air strikes on Islamist targets by the United States but in still in vain.
