Mogadishu, February 16, 2020 (Hornnews24) – At least 5 Somali government soldiers have been killed after their vehicle hit a landmine in Dharkenley district in the Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday.
A huge land mine has exploded under a battlewagon carrying soldiers. The blast destroyed the vehicle, killing most of its occupants. Witnesses say that the bodies of the soldiers were severed by the explosion beyond recognition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Al-Qaida-linked group, Alshabaab, has carried out similar attacks in the past against the Somali government soldiers.
Al Shabaab, which controls large parts of south and central Somalia, fights for driving out the foreign peacekeepers and unseating Somalia’s western-backed government to impose the Islamic Sharia law on Somalia.
